About Ffwng & Functional Mushrooms
Functional mushrooms are varieties long valued in traditional practices, particularly across East Asia. Unlike common culinary mushrooms, these species have been sought out for centuries within those traditions. We work with several that have deep roots in traditional use, including Lion's Mane, Ganoderma (reishi), Hen of the Woods, Oyster, Wood Ear, Birch Polypore, Witches’ Butter and Cordyceps.
No. Our products are food supplements. They are not medicines and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. If you have any medical conditions or take any medications, consult your healthcare provider before using these products.
Spagyric preparation is a traditional method described by Paracelsus in the 16th century. The word comes from the Greek 'spao' (to draw out) and 'ageiro' (to gather together). Our process works in three stages: separation (drawing out the spirit and soul fractions), purification (reducing the remaining body to its mineral salts), and recombination — reuniting all three in the finished tincture.
We work with species that have long histories of traditional use: Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus), Ganoderma Blend (Ganoderma lucidum · sinense), Hen of the Woods (Grifola frondosa), Oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus), Wood Ear (Auricularia auricula-judae), Birch Polypore (Fomitopsis betulina), Witches’ Butter (Tremella mesenterica) and Cordyceps (Cordyceps sinensis). We also prepare Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor) for our pet line only.
Our tinctures are not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, children under 18, anyone with mushroom allergies, anyone on immunosuppressant medications (without medical supervision), anyone with scheduled surgery (discontinue two weeks prior), or anyone on blood-thinning medications (without medical supervision). If in doubt, consult your healthcare provider.
Many people use multiple varieties. However, we recommend consulting a healthcare practitioner for personalised advice, especially if you are taking medications.
We cannot provide advice on pet use for most of our products. Our Turkey Tail tincture is specifically formulated for animal wellness. For other species, please consult a veterinarian familiar with mushroom supplements.
We use organic cultivation methods — no synthetic pesticides, fungicides, or growth regulators. We use natural Welsh spring water and food-grade substrates. We are not certified organic, but our growing practices meet or exceed organic standards.

About Our Tinctures
A tincture is a concentrated liquid extract preserved in alcohol. The alcohol serves multiple purposes: it preserves the extract (typically 25–40% ABV), extracts and holds certain compounds that are not water-soluble, and allows for convenient dosing and long shelf life.
Typically 30–35% alcohol by volume (60–70 proof).
Not currently. Alcohol is essential for proper extraction of certain compounds and preservation. The spagyric method specifically requires alcohol. We do not currently offer alcohol-free versions.
A 50ml bottle typically lasts 3–4 weeks with regular use, depending on serving size.
Store in a cool, dark place. Keep tightly sealed. Amber glass bottles protect from light degradation. Shelf life is typically 2–3 years when stored properly.
Tinctures are typically taken in small amounts measured in drops or millilitres. Can be taken directly under the tongue or diluted in water or juice. Some people take tinctures with meals, others prefer between meals. Consistency is generally considered important. See individual product labels for recommended serving.
All our products contain mushroom (fungal) material. They are processed in a facility that may also handle tree nuts and various plant materials.
Most commercial mushroom supplements use simple hot water extraction, alcohol extraction, or powdered dried mushroom. Spagyric preparation combines both alcohol and water extraction plus mineral extraction from the calcined ash. The theory is that this captures the full spectrum of the mushroom's complexity — its whole essence rather than selected fractions. We also use ultrasonic extraction rather than heat and pressure, which preserves compounds that would otherwise degrade.
